Karnataka Weather Alert: Will Bengaluru See Just Clouds Or A Touch Of Rain?

Bengaluru residents began their day on Thursday with a cloudy and overcast sky, with strong surface winds expected to persist throughout the day. There is a possibility of light drizzles or passing showers towards the evening, with an expected rainfall of 15-20mm.

According to Vijay, a weather enthusiast from the popular blog 'Namma Karnataka Weather', Bengaluru is situated in a rain shadow region, making it unlikely to experience intense rainfall. However, the city can still expect widespread light rains during the monsoon season. Historically, Bengaluru experiences better monsoon yields in July and August than in June.

Meanwhile, the current monsoon surge has brought less than 5mm of rain, which is relatively low compared to previous years.

In contrast, coastal Karnataka and Malnad areas are expected to experience another vigorous monsoon day. The past 48 hours have seen intense rainfall in Udupi-Mangaluru districts and parts of Kodagu district, and weather enthusiasts hope that this rainfall will extend to Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts as well.

Schools have been closed in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada due to heavy rains as the IMD has issued a red alert for Coastal Karnataka on June 27.

South Interior Karnataka (SIK) and North Karnataka (NK) districts are also likely to remain cloudy today with occasional drizzles.

Weather Notes:

• A low-pressure area (LPA) persists over the West-Central Bay of Bengal (BOB).
• A trough at mean sea level extends from Maharashtra to Kerala off the coast.
• Another LPA persists off the Gujarat coastline.
• Rainfall across Karavali and Malnad is expected to reduce from Saturday as the LPA over BOB moves inland across West Bengal to Bihar.
