Karnataka Weather Alert: Rain to Lash Bengaluru? IMD Sounds Yellow Alert for Weekend
Karnataka weather: The formation of a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal has brought widespread rain across Karnataka, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for 14 districts, especially along the coastal belt, for April 4.
In the latest bulletin issued on March 4, the districts on yellow alert include Vijayanagar, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Hassan, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Ballari, Haveri, Dharwad, Bidar, Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada. Heavy rainfall is expected in these regions today.

Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is likely in Gadag, Koppal, Raichur, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, and Ramanagara. Kalaburagi recorded the highest temperature in the state at 37.6°C.
Rainfall was also reported from Siddapur, Hunsur, and parts of Bengaluru. Southern interior districts such as Chikkamagaluru and Hassan recorded maximum temperatures significantly below normal. Similar temperature drops were observed in northern interior districts including Bidar, Belagavi, Vijayapura, and Koppal.
Bengaluru Braces for Evening Showers?
Weather blogger Vijay, who manages the X handle 'Namma Karnataka Weather wrote,''inland wind convergence continues across Malnad, SIK & NK. Light to moderate thundershowers likely this evening in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Hassan, DK, Udupi & others. Isolated heavy spells expected in Malnad belt.''
Meanwhile, AccuWeather has also predicted rain in Bengaluru. It must be noted that the weather in the Garden City remains gloomy and overcast, with a cold wind sweeping through Bengaluru.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Karnataka (April 4-8, 2025)
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for multiple districts in Karnataka from April 4 to April 8, 2025, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds across different sub-divisions.
On April 5 and 6, thunderstorms with lightning and squall are likely, while no significant weather warnings have been issued for April 7 and 8.
In north interior Karnataka, the IMD has predicted thunderstorm, lightning, and squall on April 4, followed by calm weather conditions with no warnings from April 5 to 8.
Meanwhile, south interior Karnataka is expected to experience heavy rain, thunderstorm, lightning, and squall on April 4. Heavy rainfall is likely to continue on April 5, followed by thunderstorm and squall activity on April 6. April 7 may again bring heavy rain to the region, and April 8 is expected to witness thunderstorm and lightning with squally winds. Residents across all regions are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during periods of active weather.
