Karnataka Weather Alert: IMD Warns Of Heavy Rains From April 2, Yellow Alert Issued for 10 Districts

IMD Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across Karnataka from April 2, prompting a yellow alert for several districts. The warning has been issued for Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Mysuru, where intense showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected.

For the past week, scattered rainfall has been observed across various parts of the state. Meanwhile, moderate rain is anticipated in Vijayanagar, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Mandya, Kolar, Davangere, Chitradurga, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Raichur, Koppal, Kalaburagi, and Bidar.

Karnataka Weather Update

April 1 & 2: Cloudy weather is expected across the state, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. Scattered moderate rainfall is likely in North Interior Karnataka and Coastal districts.

March 31 - April 2: In South Interior Karnataka, scattered to widespread moderate rainfall is expected, with isolated heavy rainfall in some areas. Dry weather is likely on the following days.

Hailstorm Warning:

''A hailstorm warning has been issued for Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru on April 1 and 2, while all Coastal Karnataka districts, along with Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri, may experience hailstorms on April 2," IMD said in its latest bulletin.

Bengaluru Weather:

As of March 30, 2025, Bengaluru recorded its highest temperature of the year on February 17, when the mercury soared to 35.9 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest day of the season so far. This was significantly higher than Delhi's 27 degrees Celsius on the same day, highlighting an unusual weather pattern for the city.

Bengaluru Rains This Week?

Residents can expect relief as rain is likely from April 2, bringing down the soaring temperatures. 'On April 2, Bengaluru will experience a cloudy sky with light rain, which is expected to persist for a few days. The maximum temperature during this period is forecasted to be around 34 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius,' IMD stated.

Temperature Updates Across Karnataka

According to IMD, Karnataka has witnessed varying temperatures, with Kalaburagi recording the highest at 41°C and Chamarajanagar the lowest at 17.5°C.

Bengaluru: HAL recorded 34.6°C (max) and 20.8°C (min), while the city center saw 34.1°C and 22.3°C, respectively. Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) noted 34.6°C (max) and 21.2°C (min), and GKVK recorded 34.0°C (max) and 19.4°C (min).

Coastal Karnataka: Honnavar registered 33.2°C (max) and 24.2°C (min), Karwar 35.0°C (max) and 24.3°C (min), and Panambur 33.4°C (max) and 25.2°C (min).

North Karnataka: Belgaum recorded 35.5°C (max) and 22.5°C (min), Bidar 37.4°C (max) and 22.4°C (min), and Vijayapura 37.6°C (max) and 26.5°C (min).

Other Key Cities: Dharwad saw 36.6°C (max) and 19.0°C (min), Gadag 37.2°C (max) and 23.0°C (min), Haveri 37.2°C (max) and 22.2°C (min), Raichur 39.4°C (max) and 26.0°C (min), and Koppal 35.1°C (max) and 23.7°C (min).

With stormy conditions and heavy rainfall anticipated, the IMD advises residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid any weather-related disruptions.
