Karnataka Weather Alert: IMD Predicts Rain In Bengaluru And 4 Other Districts On December 19

Temperatures across Karnataka have taken a sharp dive, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a significant drop of 5-6°C below normal in northern regions. The cold wave has particularly impacted areas like Bidar, Vijayapura, and Kalburgi, where temperatures are hovering between 6-7°C. This marks a stark departure from the usual December averages of 12-13°C.

Districts such as Yadgir, Raichur, and Bagalkot are also feeling the chill, with minimum temperatures forecasted to stay around 10°C, considerably lower than their normal December range of 14-15°C.

Bengaluru Not Spared

Even Bengaluru is experiencing a notable temperature drop, with the city's minimum temperature falling to 15.5°C earlier this week. Areas like Hemmigepura in Rajarajeshwari Nagar recorded a low of 12.2°C. On Monday night, temperatures at the Kempegowda International Airport and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Airport were around 15°C.

Forecasts predict further cooling, with Tuesday night expected to see lows of 12.4°C and Wednesday averaging 13.3°C.

Amid the cold wave, the IMD anticipates a shift in weather patterns. Starting Friday, December 19, light to moderate rainfall is expected to bring relief to parts of south, coastal, and central Karnataka.

The rain, triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, is likely to raise temperatures, easing the ongoing cold conditions. For Bengaluru, which once recorded its coldest December day at 8.9°C in 1883, this shift comes as a welcome reprieve.

IMD Forecast: Rain Expected in 5 Districts amid cold wave

On December 19, 2024, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light rain at isolated places over Kolar, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, and Chamarajanagar districts in South Interior Karnataka. However, the rest of South Interior Karnataka is expected to experience dry weather.

Similarly, dry weather is likely to prevail across Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka. Additionally, shallow fog or mist may occur at isolated locations in Interior Karnataka during the early hours.

On December 20, light rain is again forecasted for isolated places in Kolar, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, and Chamarajanagar districts. Dry weather will persist across other parts of South Interior Karnataka.

Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka are also expected to remain dry, with no significant rainfall activity predicted statewide.

The IMD advises residents in areas expecting rain to plan accordingly, while those in fog-prone regions should exercise caution during early morning travel.
