Karnataka Weather Alert: IMD Declares Orange Alert For Bengaluru, Nearby Districts Until December 3

Due to the onslaught of Cyclone Fengal, Bengaluru and its surroundings experienced significant rainfall on Sunday, soaking the region thoroughly. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has that this wet weather pattern is set to persist across many parts of the state for an additional three days.

IMD Bengaluru's director, C.S. Patil, highlighted, "The city is very likely to receive light to moderate rainfall for the next three days. Likewise, interior places in the south Karnataka are very likely to get light to moderate widespread rainfall, and the interior Karnataka in the north to experience light rainfall at isolated places."

In response to the continuous downpours, the IMD issued a yellow alert for several districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hasan, Kodagu, Mysuru, and Chamarajanagar, for December 2 and 3. On Sunday, December 1, the city itself recorded a rainfall of 3.8 mm, with the HAL airport and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) documenting 7 mm and 2.2 mm of rainfall, respectively, by 5.30 p.m.

The effects of Cyclone Fengal led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across Bengaluru and its airports, deviating significantly from the norm. The city experienced a decline of 5 degrees Celsius, HAL airport saw a decrease of 3.6 degrees, and KIA noted a reduction of 4 degrees from their usual maximum temperatures. Additionally, the minimum temperatures recorded were 19.5 degrees in the city, 19.2 degrees at HAL, and 19.7 degrees at KIA.

Given the heavy rainfall and its potential impact, local authorities have taken steps to ensure public safety. Consequently, the Deputy Commissioners of Kolar and Chickballapur districts have declared a holiday for schools and colleges on December 2, aiming to prevent any risks associated with the ongoing weather conditions. This precautionary measure reflects the seriousness with which the authorities are addressing the situation, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff during this period of adverse weather.
