Karnataka Weather Alert: Extreme Cold To Persist For 2 Days, Chilly Mornings Ahead In Bengaluru

The onset of winter is evident across Karnataka, marked by a sharp drop in temperatures after the cessation of rainfall. Coastal and South Karnataka are experiencing colder-than-average weather, while North Karnataka has recorded temperatures dipping 2 degrees Celsius below the norm, according to the weather department. Bengaluru has also welcomed the chill, with dense fog in the early mornings and brisk breezes adding to the cold. Previously, cloud cover from cyclonic activity had kept the winter chill subdued, but the recent dry spell has ushered in a distinctly cold atmosphere.

Bengaluru recorded a minimum temperature of 16.4°C and a maximum of 27.4°C over the past 24 hours. Around the international airport, temperatures ranged from a high of 28.1°C to a low of 15.2°C, while the HAL airport area saw a maximum of 27.1°C and a minimum of 15.6°C. According to the weather department, minimum temperatures are expected to remain below average for the next two days, coinciding with a dry spell across the state. Residents in North and Kalyana Karnataka are experiencing particularly chilly conditions.

The weather department attributes this year's heightened cold intensity to the La Niña phenomenon, which is anticipated to cause further drops in minimum temperatures. However, no significant changes in minimum temperatures are expected in coastal regions.

In Bengaluru and nearby districts, the next 48 hours will likely feature clear skies, with early morning fog in some areas. The forecasted maximum and minimum temperatures for the city are 27°C and 15°C, respectively.

The Weather Outlook

The entire state is currently experiencing dry weather, with people in North Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka regions feeling the chill. The weather department has forecasted that this year, the cold will be more intense than usual. This prediction is attributed to the La Nina condition, which is expected to cause a further decrease in minimum temperatures.
