Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Set for Chilly Weather, Fog, and Cloudy Skies

Rainfall has significantly reduced across Karnataka, and the atmosphere in the interior regions has turned foggy. The meteorological department has forecasted that these conditions are expected to continue throughout the week. The state will experience dry weather until November 24, with the exception of coastal areas. In addition to this, foggy weather is predicted to persist in both South and North Karnataka.

This year, the region is set to experience colder-than-usual temperatures, with Bangalore and districts in North Karnataka expected to record low temperatures.

Weather Conditions and Cyclone Activity

A cyclone circulation is currently observed over the southeastern Arabian Sea along the Kerala coast. The department predicts the possibility of a depression forming in the upper-level winds over the South Andaman Sea and surrounding areas around November 21. As the weather system intensifies, a drop in air pressure is expected over the southwest Bay of Bengal by November 25, which may impact the region.

Forecast for Next Week

As the week progresses, the meteorological department forecasts light to moderate rain in select areas on Monday, November 25, 2024. Districts including Kolar, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Mandya, Mysore, Chitradurga, Tumkur, and Ramanagara are expected to receive rain. Light showers are also anticipated in parts of Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagalur. However, the majority of the state will likely experience dry weather during this period.

Bengaluru Weather Update

Bengaluru, the state capital, will see partly cloudy conditions with a chance of fog in some areas during the early morning hours. The temperatures are expected to range from a maximum of 27°C to a minimum of 19°C. Over the next 48 hours, similar weather conditions are expected, with a possibility of morning fog in select areas. The temperature in Bengaluru will hover between 26°C and 18°C.

The cold weather and foggy conditions have raised concerns among farmers, especially in Yelandur Taluk, where cloudy and cold weather has been prevailing since morning. The fog, coupled with light drizzle, poses a potential risk to rice crops. The rice harvesting season is already underway, and the unusual weather conditions are making it difficult for farmers to manage their crops. The fog and drizzle could lead to crop damage, especially in areas where rice is already being harvested.

Farmers are particularly worried about the impact of this unexpected weather on their yield. The dense clouds and fog during the morning hours are causing delays in harvesting, and the increased moisture levels could affect the quality of the crops.

The cold weather has also made commuting challenging, with drivers in many areas resorting to using headlights to navigate through the fog. In rural and hilly regions, where the cold is more intense, people are seeking warmth by lighting fires. From 5 AM to 8 AM, it's common to see people at public places, farms, and open fields lighting fires to shield themselves from the cold.

As the chilly weather continues to grip the state, residents in affected areas are adjusting to the conditions by finding ways to stay warm, while farmers remain on high alert, hoping for better weather in the coming weeks.
