Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Rains To Intensify From June 8?

Bengaluru residents woke up to a mix of clouds and occasional sunshine on Friday. As the first week of June draws to a close, Karnataka is bracing for the core season of the Southwest Monsoon (SWM), which is expected to advance further in the state. However, it must be noted that the Garden city has already been experiencing incessant rainfall from the past two days.

According to Vijay, a popular weather blogger behind 'Namma Karnataka Weather', the core SWM season for Karnataka starts from June 8th to August 21st. "Post that, the rains start to taper down," he said.

Karnataka Weather Alert Bengaluru Rains To Intensify From June 8

In a recent development, the SWM onset was observed in parts of South Canara and South Interior Karnataka areas two days ago, with thunderstorm (TS) rains marking the beginning of the monsoon season. However, Vijay humorously remarked that these TS rains are chaotic and unreliable for filling the big dams. The region needs the monsoon to intensify and deliver typical SWM rains.

The region is now expecting a more sustained monsoon season, with monsoon winds expected to pick up over South Canara and SIK areas. The forecast predicts widespread light to moderate showers across Karavali-Malnad and SIK areas, with some places in Malnad and Karavali potentially experiencing heavy rainfall.

Weather Forecast for Today:

The weather forecast suggests that widespread moderate rainfall is expected across North and North Interior Karnataka (NIK) along with Uttar Kannada (UK). Some places in these areas can receive very heavy rainfall.

It is worth noting that the SWM has not set in across North and NIK zones as yet, and the fag end of the pre-monsoon season is being quite active and rewarding for these regions.

The Karnataka residents are eagerly awaiting the onset of the SWM, which is crucial for the region's agriculture and water supply. The authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation and are prepared to take necessary measures to ensure that the region receives adequate rainfall during this period.

On June 7, IMD forecasts heavy rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places over Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Chikkaballapura, Tumkur, Kolar, and Hassan districts.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at most places over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts. Additionally, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places over Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davangere, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, and Vijayanagara districts.

Bengaluru weather forecast:

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places in Bengaluru. The maximum temperature in the city will rise to 29.6°C, while the lowest will be 21.8°C.
