Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Experiences Driest July Since 2019

Bengaluru's city IMD observatory recorded its driest July in five years, with only 92.8 mm of rainfall compared to the average 116.4 mm. The HAL and KIAL observatories reported even lower figures at 67.4 mm and 39.1 mm, respectively. Last year, the city experienced 141.5 mm of rainfall, which was 116.4 mm above the normal level.

Despite the low rainfall, the month saw consistently cloudy mornings and strong winds. As the city enters a break phase, steering winds are expected to drop below 20 knots. This change is anticipated to bring increased rain and thundershowers by the second week of August.

IMD Bengaluru issues rainfall warning for next 5 days

Heavy rainfall is expected to persist across Karnataka for the next two days. The weather department has forecast continued rain in the coastal regions for the next five days.

Red Alert for Dakshina Kannada

A red alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada district on July 31. The Kumaradhara and Netravati rivers are currently overflowing, leading to significant flooding in many villages along the banks of the Netravati river in Bantwala taluk. As a precaution, schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada Taluk have been closed for the day.

Orange Alert for Coastal and Western Ghats Districts

An orange alert has been declared for the coastal districts of Udupi and Uttara Kannada from July 31 to August 2. Additionally, Chikmagalur, Kodagu, and Shimoga districts are under orange alert for the next two days.

Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Areas

A yellow alert is in effect for August 3 and 4 in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi. Kodagu district will also experience a yellow alert on August 2. Belgaum district is under a yellow alert until August 2. Due to the severe weather, over 5,000 individuals have been relocated to care centers in Belgaum, near the Maharashtra border.
