Karnataka Weather Alert: At 37.9 Degrees Celsius, Bengaluru Urban Records Hottest March Day In Past 7 Years
Bengaluru residents sweltered on March 28th, 2024, as the city recorded its highest maximum temperature in seven years. The mercury skyrocketed to a scorching 37.9 degrees Celsius, surpassing previous records and raising concerns amidst the city's ongoing water crisis.
This temperature spike comes at a challenging time for the city, which is already grappling with a severe water crisis. The lack of rainfall and depletion of water sources have led to water scarcity in many parts of Bengaluru, exacerbating the effects of the heatwave.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), this year's temperature rise is unusual and has surpassed the previous records for the same date over the past seven years. The last time Bengaluru experienced such high temperatures in March was back in 2017 when the maximum temperature reached 37.5°C.

The sudden rise in temperature has been attributed to a combination of factors, including the absence of pre-monsoon showers and a lack of cloud cover. The KSNDMC has also pointed out that the urban heat island effect, caused by the city's rapid urbanization and increased concrete structures, could be contributing to the temperature rise.
Heatwave alert
The higher temperatures have left residents feeling the heat, with many seeking refuge indoors and using cooling appliances to beat the heat. Health experts have advised people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The KSNDMC has also warned of the possibility of further temperature spikes in the coming days, urging residents to take precautions. They have advised against outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours and recommended wearing light, breathable clothing.
As Bengaluru continues to experience unseasonably high temperatures and grapples with water scarcity, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to take necessary measures to ensure the well-being of residents.
Bengaluru rains: Rainfall forecast for the next 2 weeks
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre shared Cumulative Rainfall Forecast Maps for the next 2 weeks over the State. This forecast raises hopes of relief from the scorching heat and the water crisis, as some areas are expected to receive much-needed rainfall.
The weather in Bengaluru is expected to be warm and partly cloudy to sunny throughout the week, with temperatures ranging from 26°C to 39°C. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.
