Karnataka Weather Alert: Are Heavy Rains In Bengaluru’s Forecast?

Bengaluru residents woke up to a cloudy day on Thursday, and it's expected to get even more interesting as the evening sets in. According to Vijay, a popular weather blogger behind 'Namma Karnataka Weather', there is a good possibility of thunderstorm showers across Bengaluru and surrounding areas, which will continue through the night, bringing relief from the scorching summer heat.

The South West Monsoon (SWM) is expected to cover large parts of Karnataka by the end of tomorrow, according to Vijay. While the SWM is currently mild in the South Canara and SIK regions, it's expected to bring significant rainfall to other areas of the state.

Karnataka Weather Alert Are Heavy Rains In Bengaluru s Forecast

In particular, there is a high possibility of heavy rain in North and Northern Karnataka, affecting areas such as Gadag, Dharwad, Bagalkote, Koppala, Raichur, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, and Bidar.

Also, scattered light-moderate rainfall is expected in Karavali-Malnad and South Interior Karnataka areas. This is welcome news for residents of these regions, who have been facing drought-like conditions in recent months.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rainfall activity is due to a cyclonic circulation lying over the areas. The IMD had predicted light to moderate rain with thundershowers on Thursday at several places in Bengaluru, including Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada district, Bagalkote, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal, Raichur districts, Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumkur, Vijayanagara districts.

The IMD's bulletin released on Wednesday stated that fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely over Karnataka during the next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over coastal Karnataka on June 5, 8, and 9, and over north interior Karnataka from June 5 to 7.

Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued rainfall activity warnings over other places in the country.

Stay tuned for further updates on the weather forecast and any changes to the expected rainfall patterns.
