Karnataka Weather Alert: 14+ Districts To Receive Heavy Rainfall From December 1
In Karnataka, the weather department anticipates a significant change as heavy rains are on the horizon. Over the next five days, the state is expected to experience widespread moderate to heavy rainfall, especially in the southern interior districts. This upcoming weather shift has prompted the Meteorological Department to issue an Orange Alert for the region on November 30 and December 1, indicating the potential for severe weather conditions. Following this, a Yellow Alert will take effect on December 2 for the same areas, including Bengaluru. This alert system extends to the coastal and northern inland districts, where similar warnings are in place for December 1 and 2.
As the state braces for this wet spell, specific areas are forecasted to receive heavier downpours. On November 30, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain are expected to affect Kolar, Chikkaballapur, the Bangalore countryside and city, and Ramanagara.

This pattern of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall is set to continue into December 1, targeting the districts of Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Kolar, and Chikkaballapur. Meanwhile, the coastal districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, along with various districts in the southern interior, such as Tumkur, Hassan, Mandya, Mysore, Chitradurga, and Kodagu, should prepare for moderate rain or thundershowers.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center has highlighted the critical nature of the situation with its forecast and alerts, underscoring the need for preparedness. This announcement comes at a time when the state is already experiencing colder temperatures, with the mercury expected to drop 2-4 degrees Celsius below normal in isolated places of North Central Karnataka. This cold wave, combined with the heavy rainfall, could significantly impact daily life and necessitate precautionary measures.
For Bengaluru and its surrounding areas, the forecast predicts mostly cloudy conditions over the next 24 to 48 hours, with a chance of light to moderate rain at times. This could affect the maximum and minimum temperatures, which are anticipated to hover around 25-26 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius, respectively. Residents and travelers in the region should stay updated on the weather conditions and plan accordingly.
The heavy rainfall forecast extends to December 2, where Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, and Hassan districts are likely to face heavy to very heavy rain or thundershowers. The following day, December 3, will see a continuation of these conditions across various districts in coastal Karnataka and the southern interior, including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shimoga, Hassan, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, Mysore, Chikkamagaluru, Ramanagara, Mandya, and Tumkur. Moderately heavy showers are also expected in the remaining districts of the southern interior and coastal Karnataka, with light rain predicted for the north interior regions.
The weather pattern is set to persist until December 4, with light to moderate rain forecasted across all districts of coastal Karnataka and isolated showers likely in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Yadgiri, and Vijayapur districts of North Interior Karnataka, as well as Kolar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore City, Tumkur, and Chitradurga districts of South Interior. These conditions are anticipated to continue into December 5, signaling a prolonged period of wet weather for the state.
This comprehensive forecast underscores the importance of staying vigilant and prepared as Karnataka navigates through this period of heavy rainfall and colder temperatures. Residents, especially in the affected districts, should heed the warnings and advisories issued by the Meteorological Department and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
