Karnataka: Probationary IPS Officer Harshabardhan Dies In Car Accident While Reporting For Duty

On his first day as a probationary Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Harshabardhan tragically lost his life in a severe car accident near Kittane village in Hassan, while en route from Mysore to report for duty. The 27-year-old officer from Madhya Pradesh suffered critical head injuries and passed away before receiving medical treatment. This incident occurred as he was set to assume his new role, marking a sorrowful start to what should have been a promising career in the police service.

The accident was reportedly caused when the driver of the police jeep lost control due to a tire burst while traveling from the Police Academy in Mysore to the SP office in Hassan. Harshabardhan had earlier visited the Mysore IGP office for a significant discussion with the officer, who had extended good wishes for his new journey. Sadly, these aspirations were cut short by the tragic event.

Upon learning about the accident, a rapid response from the local police leadership was initiated. Hassan SP Mohammad Sujitha, along with ASPs Tammaiah and Venkatesh Naidu, immediately went to the accident site. The critically injured Harshabardhan was quickly taken to a nearby private hospital, where a team of doctors consulted on his condition. Despite considerations to transfer him to a Bangalore hospital for advanced treatment, his condition deteriorated, making it impossible to move him.

The head of the hospital, Dr. Bashir, officially announced the devastating news of Harshabardhan's death. In the wake of the accident, Dr. Boralingaiah, South Zone IGP of Hassan, also visited the hospital, where a significant number of police officers had gathered, reflecting the profound impact of Harshabardhan's untimely demise on the police community. Discussions about airlifting the young officer to Bangalore for treatment were in progress, highlighting the urgency and concern for his well-being. Unfortunately, his health took a turn for the worse, leading to his tragic passing.

The loss of Harshabardhan on the very first day of his IPS career is a stark reminder of the unpredictability and hazards that law enforcement officers may face, even outside the line of duty. His journey from Madhya Pradesh to Mysore, and then to Hassan, was meant to be the start of a distinguished service career, but it ended in tragedy, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew him and the wider police fraternity.
