Karnataka's Cooperation Minister, KN Rajanna, has stepped down following his controversial public remarks about "vote theft" during the Congress government's tenure in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress high command directed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to remove Mr. Rajanna from the Cabinet due to the political uproar caused by his comments.

Mr. Rajanna's son, Rajendra, who is an MLC, reportedly submitted the resignation letter to the Chief Minister. Rahul Gandhi had previously protested against "vote theft" in Bengaluru on August 8, 2025.

This isn't Mr. Rajanna's first brush with controversy. He has previously demanded that Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar be replaced as president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. Additionally, he advocated for more deputy chief ministerial positions to diminish Mr. Shivakumar's influence, who holds multiple roles.

Mr. Rajanna, a member of the Valmiki community, was recently removed from his role as Minister in charge of Hassan district. He is now the second minister to resign after B. Nagendra, who left amid allegations involving a scam in Valmiki Development Corporation; both belong to the SC community.
