Karnataka Makes HSRP Mandatory For Vehicles Registered Before April 2019: How To Obtain It?
The Karnataka Government has issued a mandate requiring all vehicles registered in the state before April 1, 2019, to install High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in order to enhance road safety and security.
According to an official notification from the Karnataka transport department, this process must be completed by November 17, 2023.

What are High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP)?
HSRP is a type of vehicle number plate constructed from aluminum and secured to the vehicle using non-removable locks. In the top left corner of both the front and rear plates, a chromium hologram of the Ashoka Chakra is applied through hot stamping, measuring 20 mm x 20 mm. This hologram is employed as a security measure to prevent counterfeiting.
How to Obtain HSRPs in Karnataka:
- Visit the Karnataka transport department website at https://transport.karnataka.gov.in (https://transport.karnataka.gov.in/) or www.siam.in.
- Click on the 'Book HSRP' option.
- Select your vehicle manufacturer and provide the required basic vehicle details.
- Choose a dealer location for HSRP installation that is convenient for you and proceed to make the HSRP fee payment online. Cash payments are not accepted.
- An OTP (One-Time Password) will be generated and sent to the mobile number of the vehicle owner.
- Using the OTP, select a suitable date and time for the HSRP installation on the website.
- The vehicle owner should then visit their vehicle manufacturer or an authorized dealer for the installation of the HSRP. Some manufacturers also offer HSRP installation services at the doorstep of homes and offices.
