Karnataka launches India's 1st bio diesel bus

Bengaluru, July 5: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched India's first bio-diesel bus, which will be commuting between Bengaluru and Chennai and will run completely on bio-fuel.

According to reports state Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said: "We have launched this as pilot project. We want to increase more in our fleet in the coming days. There will be less emissions and it will contribute to a greener environment."

The department plans to add 10 more buses in the fleet in the next few weeks.

Last year, the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas permitted transporters to run buses with 100 per cent bio-diesel, up from 20 per cent.

In 2015, KSRTC launched a pilot project with 10 bio-diesel buses as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Officials said KSRTC is expected to save Rs 5 a litre by using bio-diesel.
