Karnataka HC Court Ruling Adds Fuel To BJP's Resignation Demands For Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
The Opposition BJP has called for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's resignation following the Karnataka High Court's dismissal of his petition challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot's authorization to investigate allegations of irregularities in the allotment of sites by MUDA to his wife.
Labeling the verdict a "triumph of truth," Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka stated that CM Siddaramaiah should step down to assume moral responsibility for the situation.

The Karnataka High Court has rejected Siddaramaiah's petition against Governor Gehlot's decision to sanction his prosecution in the alleged MUDA land case. Justice M. Nagaprasanna noted that the Governor is entitled to make an "independent decision" and confirmed that Gehlot "applied his mind thoroughly." The court stated, "There is, therefore, no fault in the Governor's actions regarding the order to prosecute the Chief Minister." It emphasized that while the Governor typically acts on advice, this situation is an exception.
Siddaramaiah was represented by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued on behalf of Governor Gehlot.
The High Court had previously reserved its judgment on September 12 after extensive hearings regarding Siddaramaiah's writ petition, filed on August 19, contesting the Governor's decision to allow investigations by three private individuals into the allotment of 14 housing sites to his wife in Mysuru during the BJP's rule in 2021.
Justice Nagaprasanna remarked, "The facts presented in the petition undeniably warrant an investigation, especially considering that the beneficiary of these actions is not an outsider but the petitioner's family. The petition stands dismissed, and any interim order in place will be dissolved."
This ruling is expected to heighten pressure on Siddaramaiah and bolster the Opposition BJP's calls for his resignation, potentially intensifying power struggles within the ruling party.
