Karnataka Gruha Jyothi Scheme 2023: When Is the Last Date To Register For Free Electricity?

Consumers in Karnataka seeking the benefits of the 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme, which offers free electricity up to 200 units, must register themselves before July 25. Failure to register by this date will result in their exclusion from the scheme for the month of July, but they will be considered for the scheme starting from August.

The Karnataka government has launched the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which offers free electricity for up to 200 units per month to eligible consumers. The scheme is now live and consumers can start applying for it.

While there is no specific deadline for applying to the scheme, applications submitted before July 25 will be considered for the current month, while those received after that date will only be considered for the following month.

The Karnataka government has also granted consumers time to clear any outstanding arrears by September 30. This means that even if consumers have arrears until June 30, they will have three opportunities to settle their bills by the end of September and become eligible for the 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme.

Previously, the government had stated that consumers needed to clear their arrears until June 30 to be eligible for the scheme. However, the government has now allowed a three-month period to settle pending bills.

After September 30, consumers with outstanding arrears may not be considered for the free electricity scheme.

The 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme came into effect on July 1 and will be reflected in the bills generated on August 1.

Consumers can apply for the 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme through the Sevasindhu portal, Karnataka One, Grama One, Bangalore One, or at any ESCOM (Electricity Supply Company) office.

This is the second out of five promised guarantees by the Congress party that has been implemented. The 'Shakti' scheme, which offers free travel for women, was implemented on June 11.
