The unrest began when a Ganpati idol immersion procession from Badarikoppalu village passed near a mosque, where stones were allegedly thrown at the group.

Clashes ensued, resulting in vandalism and the torching of two vehicles. Members of the Hindu community protested at the police station, demanding swift arrests.

Mandya Superintendent of Police (SP), Mallikarjun Baladandi, explained that tensions escalated when the procession lingered near the mosque, leading to arguments between the two communities.

"There were arguments between members of the two communities over this. Police intervened and tried to disperse the crowd," he said. Despite efforts, violence broke out, and the police had to resort to lathicharge to manage the situation.

In response, authorities declared a high alert and enforced Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

SP Baladandi assured that "the situation is now completely under control," with additional police forces and fire engines deployed. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, only minor ones.
