Karnataka Congress Expels B Gurappa Naidu Following Serious Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Karnataka Congress has expelled B Gurappa Naidu from its primary membership following allegations of sexual harassment and outraging a woman's modesty. This decision was made public on Saturday. Naidu, who held the position of General Secretary in the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), faces serious charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Naidu's expulsion from the party will last for six years. K Rahaman Khan, Chairman of the KPCC's disciplinary action committee, announced this decision through an official press release. The expulsion follows a case registered against Naidu involving multiple IPC sections related to sexual misconduct and intimidation.

Sexual Harassment Allegations

The charges against Naidu include IPC Sections 354A for sexual harassment, 506 for criminal intimidation, 509 for insulting a woman's modesty, 504 for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and 354 for assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty. These serious allegations have led to his removal from the party.

A 38-year-old woman, who worked as a teacher at BGS Bloomfield School in Bengaluru, accused Naidu of persistent sexual advances. She alleged that he harassed her over two years while serving as the school's chairman. The incidents reportedly occurred between March 1, 2021, and August 15, 2023.

Police Investigation

The Channammanakere Achchukatte police station registered an FIR based on the woman's complaint on November 26. The complaint detailed how Naidu allegedly tormented her during her tenure at the school where over 75 women are employed.

Despite these allegations, Naidu has denied any wrongdoing. He described the accusations as false and baseless and stated his intention to address the issue publicly soon through a press conference.

This development marks a significant step by the Karnataka Congress in addressing allegations of misconduct within its ranks. The party's decision underscores its stance on maintaining ethical standards among its members.
