Karnataka Cong Legislator among 5 killed in Bengaluru-Nanded train accident

Bengaluru, Aug 24: Karnataka Congress Legislator Venkatesh Naik is among the 5 people who have died after a lorry collided with the Bangalore-Nanded Express in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district early this morning. 8 persons have been injured in the incident.

Naik is a Congress legislator from Devadurg in Karnataka. Among the five persons killed, three were in the ill-fated train while the other two were the lorry driver and cleaner.

Bengaluru

The incident occurred at around 2:20 am at a level crossing at Madakasira in Penukonda mandal of Anantapur district. The brakes of a granite carrying lorry reportedly failed and it hit the railway gate and then a bogie of the Bangalore-Nanded Express.

Three bogies of the train have derailed and train movement on the Bengaluru-Guntakal route has been affected. Rescue work is underway.
