Karnataka: Conductor Helps Woman Delivery Baby on KSRTC Bus

A female bus conductor helped a pregnant woman to deliver a baby on a moving bus in Karnataka. The incident occurred on Monday on the Bengaluru-Chikkamagaluru route on the state-run bus ( number: KA 18 F 0865).

The pregnant woman developed labour pain around 1.25 pm near Udayapura Agriculture College in Hassan, according to a report in The Times of India. The conductor came to her rescue as there is no nearby hospital and asked all the passengers to get off the bus.

There were 45 passengers on the bus and the woman conductor is identified as S Vasanthamma. The woman was then shifted to Shanthigrama Hospital by ambulance and necessary treatment was provided.

KSRTC Managing Director G Sathyvathi appreciated the timely intervention of the woman conductor. "The timely humanitarian service of woman conductor in responding to the needs of the pregnant and saving the life of child and mother is highly appreciable. This exemplary service by the woman conductor is appreciated, " ANI quoted the IAS officer as saying.

However, the lady conductor, realising that the woman was financially weak, collected Rs 1,500 from the crew and gave it to the woman for her other expenditures.

The mother and baby are healthy, the report said.
