'Busy Shooting Reels...': Karnataka BJP Targets Siddaramaiah Govt Over RCB Fans Stampede In Bengaluru
A tragic incident unfolded at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a stampede claimed at least 11 lives and injured over 50 people. The chaos erupted as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans gathered to celebrate the team's first Indian Premier League (IPL) title. All affected individuals were promptly taken to Bowring Hospital for medical attention and identification.
Political Reactions and Accusations
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka criticised the Congress-led state government for mishandling the crowd. They posted on X, "7 dead. Many are battling for life after a stampede due to the irresponsibility of Congress govt." The BJP shared distressing images of police and volunteers carrying the injured, highlighting the lack of crowd control and basic arrangements.

The BJP further accused the Congress government of "criminal negligence," stating that "blood is on the hands of Congress govt." They also criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for being preoccupied with photo opportunities with cricketers while people suffered.
Event Continuation Amidst Chaos
Despite the tragedy, the event proceeded as planned with CM Siddaramaiah and DCM DK Shivakumar present. The procession was cancelled due to an uncontrollable crowd, yet the stampede still occurred. DCM DK Shivakumar expressed regret over cancelling the procession because of the unexpected turnout.
The death toll from this unfortunate event is expected to rise. The situation has sparked a political blame game, with both parties exchanging accusations over responsibility for the mishap. The incident has raised questions about safety measures at large public gatherings in Bengaluru.
