Karnataka Bandh On March 22: Will Namma Metro Be Closed Amid SSLC Exam Concerns?

Karnataka Bandh on March 22: Several pro-Kannada organisations (Kannada Okkuta) have announced a statewide bandh in Karnataka on March 22, 2025, to protest various regional issues. Under the leadership of Vatal Nagaraj, activists have already begun demonstrations. However, since the bandh coincides with students' exams, concerns were raised about whether the date might be changed.

Karnataka Bandh Will Namma Metro Be Closed Amid SSLC Exam Concerns

Addressing these concerns, Kannada activist and 'Kannada Okkuta' leader Vattal Nagaraj has confirmed that the bandh will take place as planned and will not be postponed.

Earlier today, Vatal Nagaraj and several activists attempted to march toward Raj Bhavan as part of their protest. However, the police, who had imposed tight security measures, detained the demonstrators before they could reach their destination.

Bandh Date Will Not Change, Says Vatal Nagaraj

Following his detention, Vatal Nagaraj reiterated that the Karnataka Bandh is final and will proceed as scheduled on March 22.

"We will go ahead with the bandh on March 22. The date will not change under any circumstances. The bandh is 100% confirmed. If necessary, the government can reschedule the SSLC exams, but we will not postpone our protest. This bandh is for the welfare of Karnataka and its people," he stated.

Key Demands of the Protest

The bandh has been called to demand:

  • Development of North Karnataka and Hyderabad-Karnataka regions
  • Implementation of the Mahadayi and Kalasa-Banduri projects
  • Action against the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) for its stance on Belagavi
  • Opposition to the central government's alleged neglect of Karnataka

Warning Against Namma Metro Operations and Outside Influence

Vatal Nagaraj also issued a stern warning, stating that Namma Metro services should not operate on the bandh day and urged people to avoid traveling by metro.

"Bengaluru is being divided among Tamilians, Telugus, Gujaratis, and Malayalis. We will not tolerate this. The bandh will take place as planned, regardless of opposition. Some individuals have become arrogant-let them take note of our protest," he added.

With strong sentiments driving the Karnataka Bandh, the coming days will reveal how the state government and authorities respond to these demands while managing public inconveniences, especially for students appearing for their exams.
