Kannada-Tamil Unity Conference On October 20 Aims To Bridge Cultural Gaps

The Karnataka Kannada-Tamil Unity and Cultural Conference aims to foster harmony between Kannada and Tamil speakers. Scheduled for Sunday, October 20th, in Bengaluru, this event seeks to bridge cultural gaps and promote unity. Dr. S.D. Kumar, the organiser and head coordinator of the Mother Tongue Federation, shared insights on the conference's objectives.

Dr. S.D. Kumar stated, "The Tamils living in Karnataka follow the culture here and have learned the language. However, some have made the Tamils look like enemies. This conference is being held to change that image. In any matter, including the Cauvery issue, the Tamils have taken a stand according to the state just like political parties, but the Karnataka Tamils have never acted against Karnataka. Tamils live in 56 countries, including Malaysia and Singapore. They follow the culture of those countries. Similarly, Karnataka Tamils live and want to live in the same way. This unity conference is being held to make this clear to all the Kannada lovers. Many attempts have been made for Tamil-Kannada unity, but they have not been successful. But this time, everything has gone well. Kannada organizations like Kannada Rakshana Vedike, including Narayan Gowda and Praveen Shetty, have expressed their full support for the conference. All Kannada organizations have welcomed this initiative. In that sense, this is a new chapter."

The event will take place at Palace Grounds on Bellary Road from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Attendees can enter through Gate No. 9 of the Princess Shrine. A food festival will accompany the conference activities. Transport arrangements include autos from City Railway Station, Cantonment Railway Station, and Majestic Bus Stand between 8 am and 10 am for those arriving from other locations.

Political leaders from Tamil Nadu such as Thol. Thirumavalavan, Seeman, and Vaiko have extended their greetings for this significant event in Karnataka's history. The conference is expected to draw a large number of participants from across India who wish to support this cause.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the conference with a keynote address. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will also deliver a special address alongside Home Minister Parameshwara and Ministers Ramalinga Reddy, Dinesh Gundu Rao, K.J. George among others.

Former Chief Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and Yediyurappa will participate as well. H.D. Kumaraswamy is set to release a special souvenir for the event while delivering his address.

Unity Among Diverse Communities

The conference brings together Tamils and Kannadigas from various backgrounds without regard to political or caste affiliations. Dr. S.D.Kumar has travelled extensively across Karnataka gathering support from Tamil organisations statewide.

This marks a significant moment as Tamils unite under one banner for the first time in Karnataka's history with MLAs like Virajpet MLA Ponanna and Madikeri MLA Mandar Gowda facilitating transportation for attendees.

Despite having representation in various political parties within Karnataka's vast population of millions, Tamils have not yet achieved positions such as MP or MLA due to lack of unity until now.

This event aims at changing that by bringing all Karnataka Tamils together sparking interest among people eager about participating in this historic gathering.
