Karnataka Rajyotsava Award 2023 Winners List: Full List Of 68 Awardees

Karnataka's Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has revealed the list of Kannada Rajyotsava Award winners 2023. Among the 68 individuals set to receive the Rajyotsava Awards on November 1, marking 50 years since the state's renaming, are ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, golfer Aditi Ashok, retired Supreme Court judge V. Gopala Gowda, former journalist Dinesh Amin Mattu and philanthropist Charmadi Hasanabba.

Additionally, the Muslim Educational Institutions Federation (MEIF) of Dakshina Kannada is one of the ten organisations to be honored with this award.

The winners were chosen by a committee chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and the awards will be presented by Siddaramaiah on November 1 at the Ravindra Kalakshetra. This year holds special significance as the state celebrates the golden jubilee of renaming Mysore State to Karnataka.

Seventy-five-year-old Huchchamma Basappa Chowdri from Kunikeri village in Koppal district has been chosen for the award. She generously donated more than Rs 1 crore worth of two acres of land for the development of a government school in her village, and she actively participates in providing meals to schoolchildren.

Hasanabba, widely recognised as Charmadi Hasanabba, is another recipient of the award in the social service category. He has been a hero in saving accident victims in the treacherous Charmadi Ghat by ensuring they receive timely medical attention. Over the past two decades, Hasanabba has rescued nearly 1,000 accident victims. He manages a small restaurant in the Charmadi Ghat area of Belathangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada.

Lieutenant General Codanda Poovaiah Cariappa, who served in various capacities in the Indian Army, as well as actors 'Dingri' Nagaraj and B. Janardhana, commonly known as Bank Janardhana, have also been honored in the cinema category.

The list of awardees encompasses 13 women, 13 members from minority communities, and a third-gender individual. Notably, three centenarians have received the award: K. Roopa Naik for social service from Davangere, Husenabi Buden Sab Siddi for folk art from Uttara Kannada, and freedom fighter Puttaswamy Gowda from Ramanagara.

G.V. Balaram, who contested the previous Assembly election on the BJP ticket, is recognized for his contributions to the establishment of the solar park in Pavagadaga in the administration category.

Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi mentioned that the department received over 2,000 applications for the award, which includes a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, 25 grams of gold, and a plaque.

Science/Technology: S. Somanath (Bengaluru) and Gopalan Jagadish (Chamarajangar).

NRI Kannadigas: Seetharam Iyengar, Deepak Shetty, and Shashikiran Shetty.

Freedom fighter: Puttaswamy Gowda (Ramanagara).

Additionally, ten organisations have been recognised for their contributions. They include Karnataka Sangha (Shivamogga), B.N. Shivarama Pustaka Prakashana (Mysuru), Mythic Society (Bengaluru), Karnataka Sahitya Sangha (Yadgiri), Moulana Azad Shikshana and Samaja Kalyana Sanskrithika Sangha (Davangere), Muslim Education Institutions Federation (Dakshina Kannada), Sneharanga Havyasi Kala Samsthe (Bagalkot), Chinnara Bimba (Mumbai), Maruthi Janaseva Sangha (Dakshina Kannada), and Vidyadana Samithi (Gadag).
