Kannada Language Debate Heats Up Once Again In IT Capital After Viral Post: 'Bengaluru Is Closed For...'

Recently, the Kannada language debate in Karnataka has reignited, particularly in Bengaluru, a city celebrated for its diverse population.

While some advocates urge people to learn Kannada as a sign of respect for the local culture, critics argue that such demands are exclusionary in a cosmopolitan setting.

The latest post, stating "Bengaluru is closed for north India and neighbouring states who don't want to learn Kannada," has stirred intense discussion, once again bringing the language issue to the forefront on social media.

The post suggested that those who do not respect the local language and culture should reconsider living in Bengaluru.

"Bengaluru is closed for north India and neighbouring states who don't want to learn Kannada. They don't need Bengaluru when they can't respect language and culture," the user wrote.

Since being shared, the post has gained considerable attention, amassing over 50,000 views and more than 200 comments.

The comments have sparked a polarising debate. While some users supported the X user's view, others criticised the stance, arguing that learning a new language is a personal choice and should not be imposed.

"I agree with your point, but the government should make this mandatory before allowing immigration to Bangalore. Mob justice is never a good solution," one user commented. "I believe that only Kannada should be used in Karnataka, and all other languages, including English, should be restricted. If someone argues for the use of English, the same reasoning should apply to other languages as well. Consider this thoughtfully and not out of animosity," said another.

On the other hand, one user remarked, "You are confused as always. Learning another language is a personal choice. And respecting other cultures and languages is a separate issue. You can always respect another's culture and language even if you don't speak it."

"India is closed for you, who don't want to learn at least the top 5 spoken languages of India. You don't need India when you can't respect Indian languages and culture," a user commented in response.

"I suggest Karnataka's immigration department ask non-Kannadigas to show their KAFL (Kannada as a Foreign Language) test score before entering Karnataka," joked another.

"You are just pathetic and evil, spreading hate. Shame on you," one user condemned.
