Just Like Delhi's Palika Bazar! Bengaluru To Have Air-Conditioned Market In Vijayanagar

Bengaluru is gearing up to launch its first air-conditioned underground market, Palike Bazaar, in Vijayanagar by the end of August. This new market, inspired by New Delhi's Palika Bazaar, is conveniently located near the Vijayanagar Metro station, according to The Times of India.

The market stretches 100 meters long and 11 meters wide, featuring over 75 shops on each side of a 3-meter-wide pedestrian corridor. It boasts sensor-operated sliding doors, escalators, and an elevator. The project was initiated in December 2017 and has transformed the old service road that once hosted over 150 vendors selling vegetables, flowers, and other essentials.

Modern Amenities and Infrastructure

Built under the Nagarothana scheme with a budget of ₹5 crore, Palike Bazaar includes two entrances for easy access. A specialized pipeline system has been installed to channel rainwater away and prevent flooding. The market also features modern amenities like sensor-operated sliding doors and escalators.

Vijayanagar MLA M Krishnappa assured reporters that all remaining work would be completed by the end of this month. "Some minor works still need to be completed, and we're hopeful of inaugurating the market by the end of the month. We'll also decide on the vendors accordingly and assign them their stalls," he said.

Transformation from Old to New

The area where Palike Bazaar now stands was previously a bustling spot with over 150 vendors offering various goods. This transformation began in December 2017 as part of an effort to modernize the space while retaining its commercial essence.

The new market's design includes a pedestrian corridor flanked by more than 75 shops on each side. This setup aims to offer a comfortable shopping experience with ample space for both vendors and customers.

With its strategic location near the Vijayanagar Metro station, Palike Bazaar is expected to attract a significant number of visitors. The air-conditioned environment will provide relief from Bengaluru's heat, making it a preferred shopping destination for many.
