July 11 Holiday In Karnataka: Will Schools And Colleges Be Closed on Friday?
School Holiday on July 11? The Karnataka government is reportedly considering declaring a school holiday on July 11 and 12 in several districts due to heavy rain alerts. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red warnings for coastal and Malnad regions, prompting authorities to assess potential disruptions to normal school operations.
Heavy Rain Forecast Triggers Holiday Speculation
According to weather forecasts, intense rainfall is expected in districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Belagavi on Friday and Saturday. In view of student safety and road conditions, discussions are underway to grant leave for schools and colleges on July 11 and 12.

While no official circular has been issued as of Wednesday evening, district administrations have been placed on high alert. Sources suggest that a decision may be made late Thursday depending on rainfall intensity and ground reports from local authorities.
This isn't the first time Karnataka has considered rain-induced holidays. Last year, multiple districts saw school closures during the monsoon season following similar IMD alerts. Parents and students are therefore advised to stay updated through local news channels and school authorities for official confirmation.
What Parents Should Know
If the school holiday on July 11 and 12 is confirmed, it will apply only to districts experiencing severe rainfall. Urban centers like Mangaluru and parts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru are likely to be affected. In Bengaluru, schools are expected to function normally unless weather conditions worsen.
Meanwhile, school buses and public transport operators have been asked to exercise caution in areas with poor visibility and waterlogging.
When Will It Be Official?
The Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) and respective Deputy Commissioners are expected to make district-specific announcements. Most updates on school holiday will be shared late Thursday or early Friday morning.
