Is Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Retiring From Politics?
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced his retirement from electoral politics, effective from the upcoming 2028 Assembly elections. The 75-year-old politician, known for his extensive career in state politics, disclosed his decision during a media interaction in Mysuru. Siddaramaiah cited his age and the desire for a respite from the demanding nature of election campaigning as reasons for his retirement.
At 83 years old during the next elections, Siddaramaiah expressed his appreciation for the love and support he has received over the years. "People have lovingly asked me to contest again and again. But I have decided to retire," he said, clarifying that his choice was based on his own assessment of his physical abilities and not influenced by external factors.

Reflecting on his tenure in office, Siddaramaiah underscored his dedication to serving the people of Karnataka, particularly in the Varuna Assembly Constituency, where he serves as an MLA. He spoke passionately about his efforts to secure a stronger mandate for his party, aiming to keep the opposition at bay and continue implementing welfare programs for the state's residents.
Responding to recent criticism from opposition leaders, including BJP's Amit Shah and HD Kumaraswamy, Siddaramaiah defended his government's record, especially regarding drought relief efforts. He questioned the morality of seeking votes without adequately assisting those affected by natural disasters, reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of Kannadigas.
