Bengaluru, April 30: Life was normal in the IT hub on Thursday, even as a transport unions called a strike against the proposed road transport and safety bill. [Why the transport strike was called on April 30: Explained]
Buses and auto-rickshaws plied across the city even though there were less number of commuters compared to other weekdays. The reason might be the decision taken by various firms to ask their employees to avoid hassles of commuting and work from home.
Oneindia spoke to a few auto-rickshaw drivers waiting for passengers on the roads. "The strike has no effect. But since many decided not to come out expecting trouble of commuting, we are not getting much passengers.
Empty or nearly-empty uses were also seen waiting at the bus-stops at peak hours.

The scene was different in the state of West Bengal where besides the transport strike, a bandh was also called by opposition parties like the Left and the BJP against the ruling Trinamool Congress's alleged indulgence in violence during the recent municipal elections. Though the transport strike had a mixed effect, clashes were reported from the state while several common people were left stranded at the airport and railway stations because of unavailability of transport.
