Bangalore, March 20: Nandan Nilekani - the Bangalore South candidate of Congress - held a pada yatra here on Wednesday.

Nilekani's pada yatra was a success as thousands of people turned out to take a walk. Nilekani began the pada yatra after offering a prayer to Lord Shiva in Gangadhareshwara Temple in Jaraganahalli. With him were Ramalinga Reddy, Minister of Transport State, Government of Karnataka, and several other prominent faces of the Congress party.

Welcoming Nandan, they urged South Bengaloreans to vote for Padma Bhushan Mr. Nandan Nilekani. 'Vote for a good man, vote for Congress,' they echoed as Nandan waved to the onlookers, residents, fellow travelers and supporters.

The party workers distributed pamphlets introducing the IT legend and describing his agenda. As the sun set, the campaign van was just a speck in the cloud of people gathered. "Congress is the party that I always vote for" says Hameed resident of JP Nagar 24th Main. "I will vote for the party that promotes opportunities and a clean Bengaluru" says Rajalakshmi, a house wife, resident of Mico Layout.

"When I talk to voters across Bengaluru - whether I am in Bilekahalli or Koramangala - my message is the same. I want to be your voice in Delhi. I want to work with each one of you to make the city better" Addressed Nandan to the crowd gathered.

"Yesterday I went to meet voters in 4th 'T' block to ask them what their hope is for our Bengaluru. They told me many things. One woman told me she is concerned for her physical safety - the streetlights in her neighbourhood don't work, and it is dangerous for her to walk home from the bus station. A young man told me that he was forced to leave school to work in order to support his family" said Nilekani at the Pada yatra.

On being asked if he is really the water that is mixed to dilute the Milk as quoted by Ananth Kumar, MP of Bengaluru South Constituency, Nandan said, "My opponent likes to say that he has 18 years experience in politics, while I don't. He is right - I don't have experience in failing in my promises, in visiting people only on election time, in being dishonest and taking credit for other people's work. I don't have even one day experience in such things. My experience, with my work in Aadhaar, BATF and Infosys, is different."

Recently, the Dayanand Sagar Institutions (DSI) awarded Nandan with the 'Leadership Award' for his achievements and leadership in the IT and Development sectors. The event was organized to recognize his contribution to Bengaluru and congratulate him on his new political endeavour.

Nandan was honored by Vice Chairman, DSI, Dr. Premchandra Sagar who presented the prestigious award. The institution welcomed Nandan by organizing a gallery exhibition, which captured Nandan's life right from childhood to his entry into politics.
