Tapal Ganesh is credited for helping the CBI build a strong case against Gali Janardhana Reddy in the illegal iron ore mining case. For the AAP state unit that has lost a prominent face like Ravikrishna Reddy recently, Ganesh's inclusion comes as a morale booster. Tapal Ganesh had recently sought a probe into Janardhana Reddy's source of funds that were spent on his daughter's lavish wedding.

This is not Tapal Ganesh's first political venture. He joined the BJP in 2011, just days before by-polls in Bellary after MP Sriramulu resigned from the party. Tapal Ganesh resigned from the BJP within 2 months accusing the party of not severing ties with illegal mining accused Reddy and his associates.
