I Stand With Dayanand Sir: Chorus Grows Louder for Reinstating Bengaluru's Suspended Top Cop
The suspension of Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayanand in the wake of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede has triggered widespread outrage, with netizens launching a vocal campaign online under the banner #IStandWithDayanandSir.
The stampede, which occurred during the RCB victory celebrations on June 4, left 11 people dead and scores injured. While the government took swift action by suspending five police officials, including Dayanand, many Bengalureans are calling the move unfair and politically motivated.

Public Outrage Over Suspension: 'Targeting the Wrong People'
Social media platforms, especially X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, have been flooded with messages of support for the senior IPS officer, who many hail as "Bengaluru's best cop."
"So sad... one of the most efficient commissioners. The way he handled high-profile cases was priceless. Does this really resolve the tragedy?" wrote user @MalikarjunaNaik.
"Dayanand sir was always people-friendly and proactive. Why punish an officer who served with integrity?" another user posted.
Residents argue that the suspension appears to be a scapegoating move, meant to deflect blame from politicians and event organizers who gave last-minute clearance to the high-risk event near Chinnaswamy Stadium.
'People's Officer': Known for Transparency and Public Outreach
Dayanand was widely appreciated for his community-centric policing, often engaging directly with citizens, visiting schools and colleges to spread cybercrime awareness, and taking firm stands against drug abuse.
Known for being approachable, humble, and action-oriented, Dayanand would personally attend to grievances from the public and was active on social media to keep Bengalureans informed.
"It's heartbreaking to see a transparent, accountable police commissioner being scapegoated," said Dhruv NK in a viral post.
"When the top cop is suspended, how can the CM and his team continue? The CM must resign," posted another user, Ranjith Kandya, questioning the lack of accountability for political figures.
A Track Record of Clean Policing
During Dayanand's tenure, no major law-and-order crises were reported in Bengaluru. His prompt responses to emergencies, crackdown on cybercrime, and dedication to public safety earned him respect across party lines.
His supporters now demand his immediate reinstatement, stating that removing an officer of his calibre will discourage sincere police work and set the wrong precedent.
