Hubballi's Idgah Maidan Faces Partial Demolition Amid Flyover Project
Due to the ongoing flyover construction at Chennamma Circle in Hubballi, part of the compound wall of Idgah Maidan is slated for partial removal.

Public Works Department (PWD) national highways division officials have requested permission and security from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) and Police Department to facilitate the construction of two flyover pillars.
According to a report from DH, parts of Idgah Maidan between Chennamma Circle and Court Circle, and between Chennamma Circle and Sangolli Rayanna Circle, need to be cleared, including a portion of the sub-urban police station building.
A letter from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), dated July 23, has called for the partial demolition of the Idgah Maidan compound to accommodate the flyover construction. This request has raised concerns that the longstanding controversy surrounding the Eidgah Maidan might resurface.
The first phase of the flyover construction, costing ₹300 crore, is progressing swiftly, with NHAI officials advancing the land acquisition process. The plan requires partial demolition of the Idgah Maidan walls near Rani Chennamma Circle to construct two pillars, with the land acquisition proposal in its final stages.
