HSRP Registration Karnataka: Fake QR Codes Target Vehicle Owners, Authorities Warn

The Karnataka transport department has officially extended the deadline for implementing HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) number plates until May 31st, 2024. However, amidst this extension, authorities have warned citizens about a rise in fraudulent activities related to the registration process.

According to reports, there's been an alarming rise in fraudulent activities, with some individuals circulating fake QR code links online to deceive unsuspecting individuals. Exercise caution before proceeding with the application for an HSRP number plate, as numerous counterfeit QR code links have been detected on the internet. Clicking on these fake QR codes could result in the loss of all funds from your account.

Cybercriminals are exploiting the HSRP number plate registration process to engage in fraudulent activities. These individuals, posing as service providers, are generating fake QR codes that redirect funds to their own accounts once clicked. A concerned individual has reported this scam to the city police via the X app. The police have advised citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving QR codes to prevent falling victim to cyber fraud.

Technical glitches are also hindering the registration process, with many users experiencing issues with the registration portals after making payments. The high volume of traffic on the registration server has caused these portals to malfunction. Users attempting to register are encountering discrepancies in company names, vehicle models, and other details.

Additionally, some individuals are facing difficulties registering their vehicles due to mismatches in registration numbers, engine numbers, and chassis numbers. It appears that the ownership details of many vehicles have been altered, further complicating the registration process for some users.
