HSRP Deadline In K'taka Extended To May 17, 2024: Do You Have Fitness Certificate? Act Now To Avoid Penalty
HSRP Deadline Extended: Is your vehicle insurance up to date? Do you have a fitness certificate? If not, it's important to address these issues promptly. Vehicles without proper registration cannot be fitted with the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP). The last date to replace your old number plates with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) was initially set for February 17th. However, as only 30 percent of vehicles have been registered so far, the Karnataka transport department extended the deadline by three months.
For vehicles purchased before January 1, 2019, it is mandatory to have the HSRP installed. This requirement is mandated under Sections 90 and 51 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1989. The transport department had set a deadline of February 17th for HSRP registration, but due to the low registration rate, the date was extended in Karnataka.

In order to register for the HSRP, your vehicle must have all the necessary documents in place, as emphasized by Mangalore Regional Transport Officer, Sheedhar K.
HSRP registration in the state has not yet reached 30 per cent, with some technical difficulties and document discrepancies causing delays. Vehicle owners are requesting a three-month extension for registration.
Mangaluru ranks first in HSRP registration
It must be noted that Mangaluru ranks first in HSRP registration in the state, followed by Mysore, Bangalore, and Hubli. However, awareness about HSRP remains low in some districts.
The deadline for HSRP implementation, initially set for February 17, 2023, was extended to February 7, 2024, as per a government notification. However, due to last-minute registrations and technical issues with server blocks and document verification, many vehicle owners, including car and two-wheeler riders, are facing difficulties.
HSRP, or High-Security Registration Plate, is an aluminum number plate featuring a chromium hologram of the Ashoka Chakra. This hologram is applied using a hot stamping process, which helps prevent counterfeiting. The plate is affixed to the vehicle using two locks for security. It features a chrome hologram on the upper left side with the wheel tread, marked with "IND" and a 9-digit code for identification.
