HSRP Deadline: Karnataka Govt Extends Last Date To Change Your Old Number Plate

The last date to replace your old number plates with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) has been reportedly extended by the Karnataka Government.

State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has announced that the deadline is being extended by three months. In August 2023, the State Government issued a notification mandating the installation of HSRP before November 17, subsequently extending the deadline by three months to February 17 to allow for compliance.

HSRP Deadline: Karnataka Govt Extends Last Date To Change Your Old Number Plate

Why this extension?
As per the report, over 2 crore vehicles were registered before April 1, 2019. As per the minister, over 18 lakh (18,32,787) vehicles have got the new HSRP number plates. It means only 9.16 per cent of the vehicles have gone for number plate change.

As the February 17 deadline neared, many people tried to order the new number plate but encountered issues in scheduling High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) appointments due to server slowdowns and various technical glitches.

Netizens on social media sites urged the authorities to extend the deadline given the website issues. One user said, "The HSRP websites--BookMyHsrp & SIAM --are pathetically slow & useless. There is just 1 Heb option for entire N B'luru. Why can't govt just give authorised vehicle showrooms to offer this service?

The second user said, "#hsrp How are we suppose to get when the portal itself is not working from weeks. This is where it always gets stuck. Then post 17th Traffic police will start charging penalties.Cc : @nitin_gadkari sir please help."

The third user commented, "#HSRP for old vehicles is an unnecessary pain, this expensive signage offers no real protection from an event of theft. Vehicle thieves simply use metal cutters to remove plates, dismantle parts, sell to mechanics or in chor Bazaar. Did govt create this scheme to make money?"
