HSRP Deadline Extended: Karnataka Vehicle Owners Have Until November 30
The deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) has now been extended to November 30.
Currently, only 52 lakh of the over 2 crore vehicles in the state have installed HSRPs. First-time violators will be fined 500, while repeat offenders will incur a fine of 1,000.

In August 2023, the Transport Department mandated HSRP installation for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, setting the original deadline for November 17, 2023. However, due to slow compliance, this is the fourth extension.

Meanwhile, the High Court is hearing petitions challenging the requirement for older vehicles to install HSRPs. The HSRP Manufacturers' Association of India has appealed, arguing that all certified manufacturers should be allowed to install HSRPs. They contend that restricting installation to manufacturers selected by automakers unfairly benefits "influential" manufacturers already in agreements with vehicle companies and dealers to supply HSRPs for new vehicles.
