Bengaluru Police Receive Plea to Deny Permission for Munawar Faruqui Show

A Hindu Janajagruti Samiti petition asks Bengaluru Police to stop a planned Munawar Faruqui show, citing earlier disputes, criminal proceedings and fears of trouble. The group claims the comedian’s past performances have triggered complaints in several cities and argues that the new event could disturb public peace in Bengaluru.

The show featuring Munawar Faruqui is scheduled in the city on Saturday. According to news agency PTI, the Samiti has already submitted a written representation to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh. The organisation wants police to either refuse permission beforehand or revoke any consent already granted.

In its communication, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti refers to a 2021 case filed in Indore. The complaint names Munawar Faruqui under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. Allegations include hurting religious feelings through content presented during a programme. The letter notes that the case continues before the court and remains unresolved.

The outfit also recalls that Munawar Faruqui was arrested following the Indore case. The letter states that Faruqui spent more than a month in judicial custody. It adds that the Supreme Court later granted bail. The Samiti argues that this history should guide the authorities while evaluating permission for the Bengaluru event.

The organisation mentions other objections raised in Prayagraj and Mumbai, again linked to allegedly offensive material in the shows. It further points out that authorities in multiple cities have earlier blocked or halted Faruqui’s events because of such fears. These include several cancellations or denials of permission over recent years.

To support the request, the Samiti lists earlier instances in which local officials did not allow his shows, often after protests were announced or warnings were issued about disorder.

The representation notes that several administrations in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Goa, Raipur and Gurgaon have taken such decisions. "These cancellations were largely due to anticipated law and order issues and public protests," it stated. The Samiti says the pattern shows a recurring risk of unrest linked to the performances.

The group argues that allowing the Bengaluru show could again upset sections of the public and trigger demonstrations or clashes. "In light of the above, we humbly request you to examine the background and past incidents associated with the performer, assess the law and order implications of permitting the event, consider denial of permission/cancellation of the proposed show and take necessary preventive measures to avoid any untoward incidents," the organisation stated. The Samiti stresses that the appeal is meant to maintain calm and harmony among different communities, PTI reported.
