Hebbal Flyover Loop in Final Stretch, Set to Free North Bengaluru from Gridlock

The long traffic snarls near the Hebbal Flyover may soon become a thing of the past. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has announced significant progress on the construction of the new loop that will connect motorists from North Bengaluru - including Yelahanka, Sahakaranagar and Jakkur - to the city centre and Kempegowda International Airport more smoothly.

According to the BDA, all civil works related to the columns have been completed. The next crucial phase involves fixing large steel girders across three spans. Work on the first span has been finished and is now being painted, while a 30-member crew is busy welding and fabricating the remaining two spans.

Once the Hebbal Flyover loop is operational, vehicles coming from the airport will be able to enter the city with minimal delays. The design provides separate lanes for traffic from Yelahanka, Jakkur and Sahakaranagar, reducing the merging chaos that has long plagued the junction.

A Lifeline for North Bengaluru Commuters

For years, the Hebbal junction has been a nightmare for daily commuters. It serves as the main entry point for vehicles arriving from the airport, and during peak hours, traffic crawls at a painful pace. The new loop aims to address exactly this problem, creating a dedicated corridor for smoother flow towards the city.

Traffic experts say that easing the load on Hebbal Flyover is critical for improving overall connectivity in Bengaluru. With the city expanding northward, the flyover's importance as a gateway has only grown.

Commuters Welcome the Progress

Residents in the area have expressed cautious optimism. "Every time I drive from Yelahanka to the city, it's the same story - long queues and endless waiting at Hebbal," said Sanjana R., a regular commuter. "If the new loop really makes a difference, it will be a huge relief for all of us."

While the BDA has not announced an exact completion date, officials confirmed that progress is steady and that the structure is in its final construction phase.

The BDA plans to complement the new Hebbal Flyover loop with additional improvements, such as widening approach roads and synchronising traffic signals to create a smoother corridor. Together, these measures are expected to improve connectivity to the airport and reduce congestion at one of Bengaluru's busiest junctions.

Though the Hebbal Flyover project alone cannot solve the city's traffic woes, it represents a clear move towards better planning and smarter infrastructure. For now, the city waits - hopeful that this long-delayed upgrade will finally make the airport commute less of a daily battle.
