From Masala Dosa To Paneer Butter Masala: Bengaluru Leads In Vegetarian Orders, Reveals Swiggy

Food delivery giant Swiggy has revealed a surprising revelation: Bengaluru leads the nation in vegetarian orders. According to Swiggy's latest analysis, one in every three vegetarian orders in India comes from the Karnataka capital. This finding was highlighted alongside the announcement of Swiggy's Green Dot Awards, which will recognize the top vegetarian restaurants across the country.

What Bengaluru Eats

Bengaluru, often celebrated as the Silicon Valley of India, is also emerging as the Veggie Valley. Swiggy's data shows that the city's favorite vegetarian dishes include Masala Dosa, Paneer Biryani, and Paneer Butter Masala.

Vegetarian Favorites Across India

While Masala Dosa remains a nationwide favorite and a staple for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Mumbai, with the second-highest number of vegetarian orders, favors Dal Khichdi, Margherita Pizza, and Pav Bhaji. Hyderabad completes the top three, with Masala Dosa and Idli topping local preferences.

Breakfast is a particularly popular time for vegetarian orders, with over 90% of breakfast choices being plant-based. Masala Dosa, Vada, Idli, and Pongal are the most sought-after breakfast items across India.

Snacking Trends

Margherita Pizza stands out as the top snack across the country, with Samosa and Pav Bhaji following closely behind. The trend towards healthier eating is also evident, with Swiggy reporting over 60,000 vegetarian salad orders placed weekly.

To honor the growing preference for vegetarian cuisine, Swiggy has introduced the Green Dot Awards. These awards will celebrate exceptional vegetarian dishes and restaurants in more than 80 cities.

"With over 9,000 brands nominated across 60+ categories, including Pure Veg Brands, Cakes & Desserts, Veg Pizza, Veg Burger, Paneer Dishes, Veg Biryani, and Dal Makhani, the Green Dot Awards aim to highlight and celebrate the expanding vegetarian food scene nationwide," stated Swiggy in a press release.
