Ejipura Flyover Completion Timeline Slips Again: May Open in August; Residents Warn of Further Delays

Commuters in Bengaluru waiting for the long-pending 2.38 km Ejipura flyover may have to wait until at least August 2026, as engineers say the project will miss its June deadline due to pending structural work and earlier setbacks, including land acquisition issues and staff transfers, with final construction still underway along Ejipura Main Road.

The Ejipura flyover project, which has already missed its March deadline, continues to face delays, although officials on-site insist that work is now progressing at a steady pace. Engineers maintain that the flyover will be ready for public use by August, even as scepticism remains among local residents.

Stretching 2.38 km and built using 762 concrete segments, the flyover is nearing completion, with around 20 segments still left to be installed. According to engineers, these remaining sections are expected to take a few more weeks, particularly as pier work has only recently begun at St John's Junction, one of the key points along the corridor.

Engineers said prestressing has been completed for Span P13-P14, referring to the section between two piers of the structure. This involves tightening high-strength steel cables inside the concrete to place it under compression, which strengthens the span, improves its load-bearing capacity and reduces the risk of cracks over time.

With this stage complete, attention will shift to installing the remaining segments, finishing pier work at junctions and advancing ramp construction. After the structural work is done, surface-level tasks such as soil stabilisation, construction of interlocking sidewalls and laying of bitumen will follow before the structure can be opened to traffic.

Work is also ongoing on both the upper and lower ramps connecting from the Domlur side and towards Kendriya Sadan. Engineers note that before traffic movement can begin, the soil on these ramps must stabilise. In addition, interlocking sidewalls are being constructed, after which a final layer of bitumen will be laid to complete the road surface.

The project has had a long and troubled history. Initially launched in 2017 under SIMPLEX Infrastructure, the contractor later exited, causing major delays. The project was subsequently revived under the direction of Transport Minister R Ramalinga Reddy, who brought in Hyderabad-based Bollineni Seenaiah Company Private Limited with a revised 15-month deadline ending in 2024.

Despite the renewed push, concerns remain. Residents' representative Nitin Sheshadri has cautioned that even the August deadline may not hold, pointing out that the project has seen slowdowns over relatively minor issues in the past. He suggested that if delays continue, the flyover could instead be opened around Deepavali in October.

For now, while engineers project an August opening, commuters who have long endured congestion along Ejipura Main Road may still need to brace for a longer wait.
