Double-decker Flyover Fully Open From Today: Silkboard Flyover May Cut HSR Layout–Jayadeva Traffic By 80%
Bengaluru's double-decker flyover on the Silk Board corridor has opened for traffic from today, with officials expecting it to cut congestion between HSR Layout and Jayadeva Hospital by up to 80 per cent.
Vehicular movement has been allowed on the stretch between HSR 5th Main on the Outer Ring Road and Jayanagar (Ragigudda), bringing a key missing link in the city's traffic network into operation after years of delays.

Silk Board Flyover: Key Stretch Now Open
The newly opened section connects HSR Layout, BTM Layout and Jayanagar, offering a direct elevated route across one of Bengaluru's busiest traffic zones. The ramps run beneath the Metro's Yellow Line and are designed to ease pressure on junction-level traffic.
Traffic police said the opening follows a trial run to assess flow and safety, after which the stretch was cleared for regular vehicular movement.
Bengaluru Traffic: Relief Expected On Busy Corridor
The Silk Board-Jayadeva Hospital stretch is among the most congested in the city, with long peak-hour delays. Officials said the double-decker flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time by diverting through-traffic away from surface roads.
The design allows smoother movement across multiple intersections that currently slow down traffic.
Ravikumar, Frequent Commuter said,"We've been watching this structure stand ready for months, often jokingly calling it a high-tech jogging track for morning walkers. It is a big relief to finally hear that we won't have to struggle through the traffic gridlock below much longer."
Project Completion After Delays
The project had faced delays, including challenges during the installation of a 42-metre steel girder. With that work now completed, authorities have moved to open the remaining sections.
Earlier, ramps connecting Ragigudda to Hosur Road, BTM Layout and HSR Layout were partially opened in July 2024.
For daily commuters travelling between South and Central Bengaluru, the opening is expected to ease one of the city's most difficult stretches.
Authorities will continue to monitor traffic patterns in the coming days, but the flyover is expected to bring visible relief if the projected reduction in congestion holds.
