Does Bengaluru Need A Twin Flyover to Ease Traffic? Find Out What OneIndia Survey Says
Bengaluru is one of the fastest-growing cities in India. However, this rapid growth has come at a cost, as the city is now grappling with severe traffic congestion. In an effort to address this issue, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has proposed to construct twin flyovers in South Bengaluru: a 2.5-km elevated stretch on Kanakapura Road from MN Krishna Rao Park and a second from Banashankari Market to Sarakki Junction. According to reports, both flyovers promises to provide an alternative route that bypasses seven traffic signals.
Earlier, the BBMP had floated tenders for the preparation of a feasibility report and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for both the project.

OneIndia recently conducted a survey across various social media platforms to gauge public sentiment regarding the BBMP's plan. The survey garnered a significant number of responses and provided insights into the prevailing sentiments of the public.
Survey Results
The survey results show that a majority of respondents on YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram support the flyover project, with 59.6 per cent voting "yes." However, 24.3 per cent voted "no," indicating that there is also some opposition to the project.
However, it must be noted that a segment of respondents, representing a weighted average of approximately 16.1 per cent, believed that Namma Metros should be the exclusive solution to the traffic issues in South Bengaluru. While this perspective is in the minority, it signifies that some respondents have alternative ideas for addressing traffic congestion.
Ease Traffic Woes in South Bengaluru
Those who support the flyover project argue that it will help to alleviate traffic congestion in South Bengaluru. They point out that the two flyovers will provide much-needed connectivity between key areas in the region. Also, they believe that the flyovers will help to reduce the time it takes for commuters to travel to and from work.
Prashanth G, one of the affected commuters, told OneIndia,"I am a regular commuter on the roads of South Bengaluru, and I have seen firsthand the impact of traffic congestion. The twin flyover project will be a huge relief for commuters like me. It will help to reduce the time it takes me to travel to and from work, and it will also make my journey more comfortable.''
''Traffic congestion in South Bengaluru has become a major problem. The twin flyover project is a welcome step that will help to ease the traffic woes of the region,'' said Local business owner Manjunath.
Twin Flyovers Will Only Provide Temporary Solution, Harm Environment
Those who oppose the flyover project raise a number of concerns. One of their primary concerns is that the flyovers will only provide a temporary solution to traffic congestion. They argue that once the flyovers are built, more people will start using cars, which will eventually lead to even more congestion.
Another concern is that the flyovers will have a negative impact on the environment. They argue that the construction of the flyovers will require the felling of trees and the demolition of buildings. Some respondents also worry that the flyovers will lead to increased air pollution and noise levels in the area.
Namma Metros are the only sustainable solution
Those who believe that Namma metros should be the sustainable solution to traffic congestion argue that it is a long-term solution. They point out that metros can carry a large number of passengers, which can help to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
