Demonetisation effect: Thieves have nothing to rob

Bengaluru has seen a steady decline in number of cash related crimes over the last week. The city police is viewing it as an effect of demonetisation.

Over the last week Bengaluru city has seen a sharp 70% decline in cash related crimes like robbery, dacoity and burglary. "Before demonetisation, an average of 8-10 cases of robbery would be reported in the city but over the last week only 4 cases have been registered. Only 1 case of dacoity has been reported in the past week as against a weekly average of 3", said Sharath Chandra, Additional Commissioner of Police(Crime).

The police department has acknowledged the steep fall in the number of cash related crimes within the city since demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
