CT Ravi Granted Bail By Karnataka High Court Amid Allegations Of Verbal Abuse On Lakshmi Hebbalkar

After being apprehended for hurling verbal abuse at Karnataka Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, BJP Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, CT Ravi, has been granted interim bail by the Karnataka High Court. The court's decision came following an FIR lodged against Ravi, leading to his arrest last Thursday. A notable aspect of the High Court's judgment was the mention of a doctor from Belgaum recommending a CT scan for Ravi to exclude any complications from a head injury he sustained. This medical advice played a role in the court's deliberations.

The court, during its proceedings, noted that there were claims of no abusive language being used by Ravi towards Hebbalkar, as per the Speaker of the Council. It was highlighted that even if the alleged abuse occurred, the police's approach in handling Ravi could have been more procedural without resorting to physical manhandling. The judgment emphatically stated that due to Ravi's position as a sitting MLC of the Opposition and his public representation role, the possibility of him absconding was dismissed.

Controversy Surrounding CT Ravi's Arrest

CT Ravi's arrest stirred notable controversy, especially with his claim that the Karnataka government was targeting him, potentially with lethal intent. Post-arrest, he detailed a chaotic sequence of events where he was initially taken to Khanapur police station, then transferred to Ram Durga police station, and subjected to an overnight drive across various districts. It wasn't until the morning that he was allowed to freshen up at a resort, followed by a mandatory hospital check-up around 10 am. Subsequently, Ravi was presented before the court of Judicial Magistrate of First Class in Belagavi before being moved to Bengaluru.

Court Proceedings and Bail

In parallel to the High Court's hearing, the Special Court for People's Representatives was deliberating on Ravi's interim bail petition. However, the High Court's decision to grant bail to Ravi took precedence, effectively overruling any potential contradictory ruling from the Special Court. Traditionally, court orders are uploaded to websites, but in this case, the High Court's order was directly handed to the investigating officer, marking a deviation from standard protocol.
