Congress leader B Poojary wins Mangalore primaries

leader B Janardhana Poojary won the

Primaries for Dakshina Kannada constituency by a huge margin.

This win seals the deal for him as he will be the official candidate for the Congress for the Mangalore Lok Sabha. He will take onto BJP's Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Poojary won 478 out of the 540 valid votes against U Kanachur Monu.

Poojary who was elated after his win told reporters that this was just an exercise to elect a candidate. The real task for the Congress party starts now, he said. He said that the next thing to do was to defeat the communal forces that was evident in the region.

All-India Congress Committee general secretary Shantaram Naik said if the primaries proved successful, they could be extended to more constituencies in the future.
