Following the incident, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath visited the affected areas in Yelahanka and directed officials to implement immediate emergency measures. He emphasized the need for precautionary steps to be taken in areas severely affected by flooding, including the relocation of residents from the most impacted zones. Officials have been instructed to provide essential supplies such as drinking water, milk, biscuits, and meals to residents in need.
The heavy rains have caused most lakes in the Yelahanka region to overflow, damaging over ten apartments and affecting approximately 4,000 homes. Efforts are ongoing to evacuate residents to safer locations. BBMP Commissioner stated that plans for relief to the affected individuals are being developed, with evacuations being conducted using boats.
In particularly waterlogged areas like Bhadrappa Layout and Tata Nagar, additional 10-15 HP pumps and fire brigade vehicles have been deployed to remove water. The BBMP has also instructed the placement of JCBs at critical storm drain locations to ensure proper drainage.
BBMP officials, along with personnel from BESCOM, police, fire brigade, NDRF, and SDRF, are actively working on-site to resolve the flooding crisis. Floodlights have been arranged for both day and night operations to assist in the water removal efforts.
As rainfall is expected to continue, residents in low-lying areas have been advised to remain vigilant and safe. Officials are also taking preventive measures to drain water from filled lakes and lower-lying ponds to mitigate flooding risks.
In light of the ongoing situation, additional IAS and KAS officers have been assigned to the Yelahanka region for enhanced monitoring and response efforts. Each officer is tasked with addressing resident concerns and implementing swift solutions to the challenges posed by the heavy rains.
