CID Takes Over Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede Case, Site Inspection Underway
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has officially taken charge of the probe into the tragic stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and left several injured. The incident occurred during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebration earlier this week, drawing public outrage and demands for accountability.
CID Superintendent of Police (SP) Shubhanwita is heading the investigation, with Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) Gowtham and Purushottam appointed as the investigating officers.

Earlier, the Cubbon Park police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the stampede. The case file has now been formally handed over to the CID for further action. The CID team is expected to carry out a detailed site inspection today at the Chinnaswamy Stadium premises, particularly focusing on gates 7, 16, 18, 19, and 21, where the crowd reportedly surged and panic ensued.
According to sources, the CID is preparing to take four accused individuals into custody for questioning. However, due to the government holiday today (Eid-Al-Adha) and Sunday falling tomorrow, the arrests are likely to be made on Monday after obtaining a body warrant.
The special investigation is being conducted under the direct supervision of SP Shubhanwita, as the CID aims to uncover the lapses that led to the tragic incident and hold those responsible accountable.
The Chinnaswamy stampede has sparked intense public scrutiny, with many questioning the timing of approvals, crowd control measures, and event coordination. The CID's investigation is seen as a critical step towards delivering justice for the victims and implementing measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
